Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has reportedly turned down an offer to move to Premier League giants Chelsea. Reports say the Polish goalscoring machine is more likely to join Barcelona.
Lewandowski has been heavily linked with Die Rotten’s exit this summer. The 33-year-old footballer will leave the Allianz Arena for failing to seal a new deal with Bayern Munich.
For information, Lewandowski is actually still under contract in Germany until June 2023. However, the news of the player’s stalled agreement with the club immediately attracted the interest and attention of other teams, including Chelsea.
Reporting from the Mirror, the Blues are indeed looking for a replacement to fill Romelu Lukaku’s position at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian player failed to perform well in his second spell with Chelsea. He was only able to collect eight league goals throughout the 2021/2022 season.
The club coached by Thomas Tuchel is now seeking talks with Inter Milan regarding the potential return of Lukaku to the Nerazurri. The 29-year-old player is scheduled to return to Italy, after only serving one season in the Premier League.
Tuchel is known as a big Lewandowski fan. The German coach believes the player can still develop in England, even though he will soon turn 34 years old.
Unfortunately, Chelsea’s offer was not welcomed by Lewandowski. The SPORT report claims the former Borussia Dortmund player would prefer to move to Camp Nou rather than the Blues.
Barcelona is believed to be the leading club that has the potential to secure Lewandowski’s signature. Diario Sport said the Blaugrana had informed the player that he would fill the position left by Lionel Messi at the start of last season.
The offer could be an interesting deal for Lewandowski. The reason is, Lionel Messi has not only played a role as the club’s main striker, but also holds a fairly high status in the Barcelona dressing room.
Reports in mid-April claimed Barca had reached a verbal agreement with the player. The club, who finished second in the Spanish La Liga standings, are willing to give Lewandowski a three-year contract at Camp Nou.
Lewandowski’s move will inevitably cause a big loss for Bayern Munich. Moreover, the former Borussia Dortmund player has a brilliant record and is often the mainstay of Die Rotten’s goalscoring machine.
Nevertheless, Lewandowski has made it clear his intention to end his tenure at the Allianz Arena. The Poland international seems eager to start a new adventure outside Bayarn Munich.
“I want this (his tenure with Bayern Sunchen) to end immediately, we are not enemies. I’m sure we can find a solution together. I think Bayern are better off investing their money, rather than keeping me until the end of my contract,” said Lewandowski, as reported by Marca.
“Am I optimistic about signing (contract) at Barca? That’s a big question. I don’t like being in this situation. What is certain now is that my career at Bayern is over,” he said on a different occasion.
“I don’t see an opportunity to continue my career at this club. Let’s see what we can do in the next two weeks. I don’t want to continue at the club and I want to focus on Poland,” concluded Lewandowski, as reported by the Mirror.
